Got a bathroom that could use a facelift, but not ready to fork over the money for a full renovation? Our guest bathroom is such a case. I would love to change out the flooring, vanity, and tub but it’s just not high enough on the list right now of priorities. With guests coming over for the holidays, I decided to give our bathroom a mini-refresh for under $50. These are small fixes and upgrades you can make with little to no cost, but big impact.
Play Up the Best Features
I love the white subway tile in this bathroom, but making sure it’s in perfect condition goes a long way. With time and use, I noticed some of the bathroom sealant had begun to show some wear and tear. When your tile/caulk is white on white, any little imperfection is going to stand out. Loctite® Re-New Caulk was exactly what I was looking for! It’s a quick and easy way to make your bathroom look like new without the hassle. Get this, you can put it on OVER old sealant. There is no need to remove the existing caulk – you simply apply this right over it. Since there is no scraping or mess, it’s simple and easy! The integrated auto-smoothing applicator ensures you get a perfect result and you can easily wipe off and re-try if needed. Even better, it has long-lasting mold resistance. I found this gem at The Home Depot in the paint department and I highly recommend it if you’re looking to refresh your space!
Get Painting
While you’re at The Home Depot, pick up some paint…a fresh coat of paint in a bathroom goes a long way. Play with new colors and don’t be afraid to go bold if it suits your bathroom.
Install Shelving or Upgrade Current Storage
Installing some simple shelves can give a wall a new focal point and help clear the clutter, which is an instant upgrade! I had built-in shelves in this bathroom, but they easily become cluttered with three kids. Adding some baskets and wire mesh containers really helped me to play up the space. Add a candle and some decor to complete the look.
Upgrade Linens and Towels
Go Green!
Adding some greens, real or faux, just makes the space seem more refreshed! Add a jar to help your guests feel at home. I like to put out a jar when I know guests are coming that has items that people appreciate; consider makeup remover, lip balm, lotion, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and of course extra toothpaste, razors, cotton swabs and more.
Go [Deep] Clean
There’s nothing like a sparkling clean bathroom. Give it a good, deep clean before guests arrive. It may seem obvious, but giving the cleaning process a little extra elbow grease will make a huge difference. The Home Depot is a great place to start with any space refresh or upgrade!
Remember to look for Loctite® Re-New Caulk in the Paint Section!
