Adding value to your home is something on every homeowner’s mind. Whether this is a long-term home and you want to enjoy the space you have or you are thinking of potential resale, there are projects that will instantly add value to your home. In my experience, we did a lot of projects when we first moved in to ensure that we would love the space and now I’m glad we did! As we grow out of our home, I know that those projects will add resale value. True, many of these projects may require a quality contractor, but it’s worth it!
Here are some projects for you to consider:
Wood Molding – Talk about impact! You may not think this is a big deal, but the impact that wood crown molding can have on a space is incredible. It instantly upgrades, elevates and adds value to any space. It looks beautiful with virtually any decor and it adds to the first impression people have when they enter your home, really drawing the eye when you enter a room! I love larger base molding, wainscotting, and crown molding. There are so many styles and unique things that you can do.

Our living room was very ordinary when we moved in. One of the first things we did was to add crown molding, wainscotting into the space and up the stairs (such impact!). The nice thing about this upgrade, it doesn’t age. It’s timeless, classic and can be revamped with a coat of white paint. The value added is long-lasting and effective.
Built-Ins – For any space, adding built-shelving can save space (less furniture needed) and add instant, beautiful value.

Some common places for built-ins might be the family room, around an entertainment center, bookshelves, display shelves, bedrooms and office spaces. This investment is wise and has such great functionality!
Kitchen Renovation– This is a big one but SO worth it. I feel like my entire home changed the minute we did the kitchen! It just elevates your home’s value and adds to your quality of life in the home! A kitchen is a natural gathering point – and we spend so much time in this space. Why not love it?
Hiring a contractor is the way to go with most of these projects I’ve listed. If you are looking for one and live in the New Jersey area, like me, I recommend, C. Mac Contracting. They are there to help answer your questions and address your unique needs for your home. They will take the time to learn about your needs for this typically busy space and help you design a space that works and is functional for your family. Their kitchen installations are beautiful and they consider things that you, the homeowner, may not think of. (drawer pull-out types, budget balancing, height of counters, etc) By the way, in NJ, finding quality contractors is sometimes a challenge, so you’ll want to trust a well-managed business, like C Mac Contracting.

Replace Your Front Door – It’s all about the entry! A new front door, especially in a bold or coordinating color can really add curb appeal and impact to your home. It’s a natural focal point to the exterior and adds value. Consider your home, style and what look you’re going for. Certain door types will add effect to a charming home, while others will elevate your home, make it more stately. While other homes, a new door is like a facelift – anything newer is better! An old door instantly says ‘dated’ and is distracting! Not to mention, a great door can help you save on energy costs if it’s insulated better than what you have.

Paint– This is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to breathe new life into your home. Experiment with colors to really change a space. Updating paint colors to the rooms, can help you make spaces appear larger, cozier. Darker colors will make a room feel less overwhelming or you can even combine the two with an accent wall.

For main walls, think of neutral colors which help bring more light into your home and go with any decor.
This list could be endless – there really is so much that you can do to help add value. Some ideas might include new lighting (a huge impact) and flooring (i.e. adding hardwood or tiled floors) No matter what you do, these projects are helping you live in a home that you enjoy AND add value. Sit down and look online and decide what your vision is for your home, do the projects you can yourself and then find contractors to help you do the large ones!
