5 Reasons to Install a Home Security System

Sep 05, 2019 Stephanie

This is a sponsored post; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

It may seem like there is a lot to think about when it comes to a home security system. It can seem overwhelming. You watch ads for the DIY home alarm systems and think, “can it really be that easy?”  On the flip side, it can be hard to decide whether to sign up with a company, sign a contract and have a system professionally installed. It all seems a little overwhelming. You might worry about if there will be false alarms, tough installation, added costs and if it will be worth it in the end.

For my own family, we opted for a professionally installed system and we did so for a variety of reasons. I like the idea of having professional monitoring on my home  – period. A call center is linked to my home 24/7 and we do monitor for fire/CO2 and entry. With a pet, I especially like this because I know our dog will be safer when we’re not at home with these monitoring services in place. I liked being able to speak to a professional with a company and explain what my needs were.

When things go wrong or my system is not working, I can call a trusted professional from the company to come out and remedy it or make changes that work for our family. When we had a professional come out, they were able to design a unique system for our home and family after finding out what our priorities were.

Unique plans might include sensors, fire monitoring, glass sensors, cameras and more. But when it comes to protecting your home, your valuables and loved ones – in addition to creating peace of mind – there’s a lot of elements to think about.

There’s many reasons to install a security system and some may resonate with you. Here’s a list of reasons why you might consider a system.

Deter Crime

Even if you don’t live in a high crime area, you’ll likely want to I like to think that the signs and stickers my home has on it are a deterrent to would-be criminals. Not only does it make your home less appealing, but it is also a great deterrent when the alarm goes off and scares off criminals before any crime can take place. I like knowing that when that alarm goes off, my local authorities will respond. If we are home, this gives me such a peace of mind, knowing my home is armed and ready. When we are away, I feel like someone is always watching my home.

Extended Features – Smart Home

Some modern-day alarm systems allow more remote access to your home when you’re not there. There are many components you can take advantage of, whether it be cameras throughout your home, thermostat, door locks, lights, and other devices.  You can also see how your smoke or carbon monoxide alarms can be tied into systems.

Be Home Even When You’re Not

A security system allows you to monitor or know that your home is monitored when you can’t be home. If you have teens or older children, you’ll have the peace of mind to know they are safe.

Better Homeowner’s Insurance Rates

Some insurance companies will lower your rate by sometimes 10-20%  for having a system in place.

Thanks for mentioning that having a professionally installed security system has given you additional peace of mind about the safety of your dog. My husband and I will be moving to the city next month and have been trying to decide if getting a security system would be worth the cost. We have two dogs, so your article helped convince me that getting a security system would be beneficial!
