Just as fast as summer started, it’s wrapping up. While summer is fun, I have to admit, I love that the fall brings cooler weather, family holidays and of course, football! Our family loves everything football and so tailgating is right up there with some of our favorite fall activities. Tailgating means fun, good friends, good food and Dr Pepper® – the official drink of college football fans. In fact, it’s been a part of college football for over 25 years. With it’s indulgent, one of a kind flavor (23 flavors!), Dr Pepper pairs perfectly with most of our favorite football foods!
Today, I’m sharing one that is everyone’s favorite — Pepperoni Pizza Bread. Once sliced, it’s the perfect, pull-part, grab and go food that is just meant for football.
To get ready for tailgating season, you can head to Dollar General. When you’re doing a lot of entertaining, you don’t want to spend a lot and Dollar General will help you keep any budget! Dollar General has the selection, quality and variety of products. They have a great seasonal section – and I found a lot of fall and entertaining items, which are great for tailgating (i.e. coolers, comfy folding chairs, disposable plastic plates and decor.)
Use simple decor that can last you the whole season. My family made a football themed rag-tie banner and it’s our go-to decor for the whole season!
Tip: Our Dollar General has a great craft section – pick up posterboard, fabric, twine, paint and make your own banner or other fun decor items.
To make the pizza bread (recipe below) you’ll need a few items from your own pantry and some you can purchase at Dollar General. Our store has a fresh food and frozen section – so I picked up the Pepperoni, Cheese and pizza sauce in one stop!
In addition, I grabbed some colorful cups, a serving tray, drink bin, plates for my pepperoni bread, fun chalkboard signs for our food items and a fun football themed towel – just one of the many seasonal items I found! It’s so convenient to be able to pick up everything in one place – and a great a price.
Tip: Make a fun drink station for guests using cups, buckets, drink bins and ice. Have cups and different options for everyone to grab something cold to go with their favorite foods.
Pepperoni Pizza Bread
Ingredients:
Pizza Dough (homemade or store bought)
Pepperoni
Sliced Provolone Cheese
Mozzarella Cheese – Shredded
Jar Pizza or Tomato Sauce for Dipping
Salt/Pepper to Taste
Italian Seasonings
This is a simple recipe – and an ice-cold Dr Pepper is great with all the cheesy, savory flavor!
Steps:
- Whether you have homemade or store-bought dough, you’ll want to knead and roll out with a rolling pin. Lay out on a piece of parchment paper to work on.
- Add a layer of provolone cheese, pepperoni, and shredded mozzarella.
- Top with salt/pepper and Italian seasonings.
- Next, carefully start to roll the dough, keeping the stuffing inside. Wrap ends under and tuck seam underneath.
- Place on a baking sheet and score the top for venting.
- Bake at 400 degrees until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly and then slice for easy serving – serve with dipping sauce.
This is one of those recipes that’s great to make and take since it needs a little cooldown time. It’s the perfect football food – no utensils required. Don’t forget to check out Dollar General for all your tailgating needs this fall, including stocking up on Dr Pepper products.

Can you substitute the provolone cheese for any other cheese when making the pizza bread?
