There’s no doubt that the holidays bring friends and family together. Guests are a great part of the holiday season – even the unexpected ones. It’s not uncommon to get a text asking “Mind if we stop by?”
So how do you get your house ready and what do you offer your last-minute guests?
Get Yourself Ready
Take 5-10 minutes to freshen up (or if you’re like me, change out of those comfy clothes!) I don’t worry too much – people who are asking to stop by are usually good friends and family so they don’t expect perfection!
Pick up items off the floor or throw dirty dishes into the dishwasher. Focus on the areas that your guests will be in – such as a family room, sitting room or kitchen/dining room. Do a quick wipe down of the guest bathroom and put out fresh towels. Light a scented candle if you have time.
Prepare Snacks and Coffee
Grab a favorite serving tray and prepare a simple snack for your guests.
Cookies are a great go-to but you can also include fruit, nuts, cheese/crackers or cookies are perfect choices, plus you can easily pull something like this together. Serve with coffee, espresso and have a pitcher of water and lemon.
The key to preparing a fast holiday snack for your guests is having the right things on hand. I stock up on easy foods like nuts and cheeses and Mulino Bianco Cookies.
They remind me of how my Italian mother-in-law can whip up amazing things for last minute guests. Give her 5 minutes and she can feed a crowd – and during the holidays she always has cookies ready to go. Mulino Bianco cookies are a great choice since they are Italy’s #1 brand of cookies. They are a great compliment to holiday gatherings but are also a good staple to keep for those unexpected guests or even last minute gift. Since 1877, Mulino Bianco has been perfecting their recipes – with only the best ingredients and quality.
There are a variety of flavors, but I’m showing here the Ringo, Chocolate Pan Di Stelle and the Baiocchi cookies, I can show you how I quickly set up a pretty tray to serve my guests.
As a nod to these Italian cookies, I chose a nice vibrant print to accent my tray.
I love the gold and blue with the reds. Since we love espresso with cookies, I can quickly make espresso and serve in these favorite cups with plate.
I will usually pull some holiday decor from other parts of the house to help make the serving area festive – i.e. this garland, a small decorative tree.
Tip: I love these red “pepper” berries. I buy a bunch during the holidays because they live a while, are very durable and just look pretty! You can add in with other flowers for a festive centerpiece or accent on a try.
Your guests will appreciate these small efforts and you’ll feel no stress – being able to focus on enjoying a visit. Prepare ahead and pick up the essentials, like Mulino Bianco cookies, this holiday season.
