We’re sharing an engagement gift idea with a recipe for Chocolate Cake Crinkle Cookies. Get the easy to put together gift idea and recipe below.
We are really excited over here about the engagement of my little sister. She’s certainly the baby of the family and everyone is excited to help her start planning. My twin girls, age 5, are particularly excited. They were all about helping me make a gift for my sister and her fiance. Since they also just got a place of their own, we decided to make them a gift basket of some of our favorites and a new sign to decorate!
I decided to add some of our favorite hand soap, SoftSoap® Hand Wash Plus Lotion™. With three young kids, we go through a lot of soap around here. This soap is great because it locks in moisture and has a touch of lotion.
It leaves your hands clean and soft, not greasy. And since my sister has a lot of work ahead of her (wedding planning is tough and so is decorating a new apartment!), she can definitely get use out of the two indulgent scents.
I chose the Shea & Cocoa Butter and Orchid & Coconut Milk varieties for her, which I found at Target. We love shopping at Target – one-stop shopping for us, from grocery, to clothes, toiletries and items to make the perfect recipe and gift!
In our basket, we included hand towels, a “Happily Ever After” wooden sign, basket and cookies.
These aren’t just any cookies, though. They hold a special significance in that it’s a cookie that reminds me of childhood – and hopefully will remind my sister of that, too.
My mom used to buy these fudge cookies topped with sugar and they were SOO good. They didn’t last long in our pantry.
Years later, I tasted a recipe that reminded me of them and I’ve made them ever since. Now that my girls are old enough, I can show them this SUPER simple cookie recipe that uses cake mix. Typically, sprinkle cookies also may have powdered sugar, but I tend to opt for less mess with my kids and went for the classic granulated sugar on top.
Since they are made with cake mix, they are really hard to mess up and always come out chewy. We think they are a great addition to the gift!

My daughter digs in helping me mix up the cookie mix.

Then, we wash up with SoftSoap Hand Wash Plus Lotion.

RECIPE
Chocolate Cake Crinkle Cookies
Ingredients
1 box of devil’s food cake mix (regular chocolate will do, as well)
⅓ cup of vegetable oil
⅓ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
Granulated sugar – I use Simply Balanced from Target
Directions:
Heat oven to 350°F
In a large bowl, stir dry cake mix, oil, eggs and vanilla until dough forms.
Refrigerate the mixture for 15-20 minutes to make it easy to work with.
Shape dough into 1 inch balls/1.5 inch balls for thicker cookies as pictured.
Roll balls in granulated sugar.
Places dough about 2 inches apart and bake 11 minutes.
Immediately sprinkle with a bit more granulated sugar.
Move to a cooling rack to cool fully for 30 minutes.
These looks so gooey and delicious. I wish I had the ingredients in my pantry right now! {client}
