Headed to the beach with your kids? Then you know that you’re in for a lot of work! But there’s certain things you can do to make your day at the beach more fun and possibly even help you sneak in some relaxation. Below are some of my favorite “Beach Trip Hacks ” to consider when you’re packing for your next beach trip.
Bring along baby powder to sprinkle on your skin. It makes cleaning sand off of you a breeze. Another trick for kids who are covered in wet sand: Fill a microfiber cleaning mitt with baby powder and store in a zip plastic bag. Now, you can use the softness of the mitt with the baby powder (which will come through the mitt) to clean off even the most covered kid!
Cover Your Phone
Seal your phone up in a resealable plastic bag and you’ve got an instant phone cover. It’s an easy way to save your phone from the sand and water.
Use a mesh pop up laundry basket or bag for beach toys. When it’s time to pack them up, just place in the bag and shake out the excess sand.
Plastic Storage Tote
I keep a plastic storage tote in the car (this obviously only works if you’re driving to the beach!) and fill it with the wet towels, suits and anything else that needs to get washed.
Individual Tote Bags
It may seem like one more thing to carry, but I bring one tote for myself and one for the kids. We use a beach caddy, so it’s easy to just load everything up. The point of it is that I can keep my stuff safe from the sandy, wet hands that dig through the bag. We’ve also nearly lost keys and other items when the kids rummage through the bag.
Prepare for the Inevitable Snack Attack
The Snack Attack will occur just as you’ve taken a seat and/or you’ve started reading or relaxing. Everyone will be hungry at once, so have lots of choices on hand. The Snyders-Lance snack packs (available online and in-store at major retailers) are the perfect on-the-go snack for any occasion, including summer road trips, beach weekends, picnics, concerts, team sports and more. Single-serve sizes allow portion control and are convenient for tossing in the car (or beach bag) or storing in the pantry for anytime snacking. What I love about these snack packs is that there is something for everyone. Each pack contains a variety of snacks from five Snyder’s-Lance family of brands. And, they’re already individually packaged and portioned, so it’s a great grab and go snack.
The Premium Variety is my favorite! The bag includes: Snyder’s of Hanover® Honey Mustard & Onion Pretzel Pieces, Kettle Brand® Backyard Barbeque® Potato Chips, Cape Cod® 40% Reduced Fat Original Potato Chips and Late July® Nacho Chipotle Tortilla Chips
I love the Cape Cod Chips while my kids love the Late July Nacho Tortilla Chips. No matter which variety you choose, all the snacks are made with great-tasting, better-for-you ingredients. In addition to these snacks, I always bring lots of water for everyone. Try to use a self-sealing water bottle – sandy hands won’t get sand in their water this way, trying to open and close. We also bring lots of fresh fruit and a garbage bag for our trash.
