Happy Summer! With warm weather consistently here to stay, and the kids out of school, there’s only one place to head to make sure everyone has a good time and stays cool – the town pool. It’s a boredom buster and sure way to beat the heat. The only downside is that I’m usually by myself with three kids – and it can be a lot to pack up and supervise three kids at the pool. Identifying what are your essentials and keeping a “ready-to-go” beach bag can help you get the pool in a snap. And while I’m there, SwimWays is helping me help my kids explore the water.
Summer Pool Essentials for Kids
So what’s in my bag? That very question leads me to my first essential:
Large Tote
I love my Boat Tote – it is SO spacious and sturdy. It holds ALL of our pool stuff with spare room. Having a bag that fits everything is going to save you some sanity and make that trek from the parking lot into your seat a whole lot easier.
Hooded Towels or Towel Ponchos
Maybe it’s just my kids – but I find they are like fish in the water, happy and having fun, only to step out of the pool and become whiny, crying messes about how cold and wet they are. These hooded towel ponchos have been a lifesaver. They come out, pop this on and done. The hood helps dry hair and the poncho gives kids the coverage they want after coming out of the pool.
Stainless Steel Water Bottles – Insulated and keeps drinks ice cold all day long
My kids always ask for cold water. Always when there is no ‘cold water’ available. That led me invest in some stainless steel water bottles for everyone. They keep drinks cold (like really cold!) for up to 48 hours.
Natural Sunscreen – Stick and Cream
Have extra sunscreen and apply before you get to the pool. Remember to reapply and follow directions on your label.
Tot Chairs
Like most community pools, seating is a hot commodity. Since they are small enough, I always bring small, fold up, tot chairs. Now, there’s no complaining when their brother kk

Swim Ways Step Two Swim Vest and SwimWays Step 3 Power Swimr
With three kids, varying ages and abilities, my children are continuing their swim progression with SwimWays and building their confidence in the water. Those last two are the most important for me. My twins are at different levels. One is at a Swim Step 2, so we are using SwimWays Swim Vest to provide support while children learn to balance and paddle –which are important swimming skills.
The SwimWays Swim Vest has sturdy foam inserts which help provide balanced flotation. The front zipper has a safety closure for easy on and off. Added to that, it has a UPF 50+ sun protection.
The Power Swimr, which my other daughter is using, is part of Swim Step 3.
This graduated flotation advances swimming ability at the child’s own pace. It gives confidence to swimmers – sort of like training wheels for the pool. I like how the adjustable cords and support strap ensures a proper fit each time. 9 removable floats allow the Power Swimr to adjust to your child’s level.
