Warmer weather is finally here. We’ve had so much rain and gloomy weather throughout the entire spring, so I’m ready for some sunshine, warm weather and time outside. Routine, activities and clothing choices all change once summer arrives, but so do the products that you use and need to have. I like to keep many of the products I use as natural as possible, too! (See below how Tom’s of Maine is helping me do that!)
So what are the best summer essentials to stock up on now?
Change up your fragrance. Lose the heavy perfumes and opt for a n all natural, light body oil or mist. You can even find some that have some shimmer or double as an after-shower body oil spray.
Of course this one is obvious! Clearly sunblock is essential, but having the right kind is what makes all the difference. First, do your research. You can find natural, safe alternatives to the typical sunblocks. For me, this is important when I’m applying it to my kids and to my face and body. Second, many brands offer convenient solid sticks that make application easy and fast.
Sunless tanner products have come a long way! There are so many amazing products out there, especially ones that are natural and organic. I’ve used many that will give you a beautiful summer glow. There are plenty of products you can use at at home to achieve a great look, but you can also opt for having someone apply the color for you. This is a great option before an event or vacation.
White teeth go great with that summer glow, so make sure you have a product that will whiten your teeth the natural way. Tom’s of Maine Luminous White Toothpaste is my favorite. Luminous White whitening toothpaste offers safe, effective whitening with only naturally-derived ingredients that work to remove surface stains for whiter teeth in two weeks! It’s safe for enamel and everyday use, too! (Tip: You can find it at my favorite store, Target, when you pick up all of your other summer essentials!)
I choose Tom’s of Maine as they are a leading natural products company – so many of their products (toothpaste, mouthwash, antiperspirant, deodorant, soap, lip balm and natural baby shampoo/lotion products) are a pick for me. I feel good that my family is using safe products. Plus, they are a company that gives back. They have invested in hundreds of nonprofit efforts by giving 10% of profits back to organizations that support people and the planet. Win-win.
Natural Antiperspirant or Deodorant
Tom’s of Maine also makes natural antiperspirant and deodorant depending on your needs. I highly recommend and regularly use them to stay dry and fresh all summer.
Get outdoors this summer but protect the delicate skin on your face with a sunhat for the beach or outings. Plus, they look super cute, too!
Shiny Hair Fixes
Make your hair bright and shiny with a natural hair mask. You can find a ton of recipes for masks that suit your hair’s needs. My favorite one helps me combat dry summer hair and adds shine and lustre. With only two ingredients (Avocado and Honey) it’s easy and budget friendly to make. Get the recipe below!
Avocado Honey Mask
1 Medium Avocado
3 TBSP Honey
Start with Avocado chunks and mash into a puree. Combine with honey. Apply to damp hair and leave on for 20 minutes.
Summer Tote and Cosmetic Bag
Finally, make sure you have a great summer tote and toiletry bag to be able to bring all your essentials with you on-the-go especially vacations and weekend trips. I love the look of bags that have fun quotes or sayings. I recently saw one at a gift shop here in my town – and it was $30! I’d rather not spend that much and instead put it towards my summer essentials.
So, I decided to get the look by making my own for under $10. Simply purchase a plain cosmetic or toiletry bag. (The one above was $3) I chose one that was plain canvas and had leather accent. You’ll want to look for transfer stickers – and be sure it says that you can use on fabric. I found this multi-pack with 4 fun sayings and they were only $4, bringing my total for the project to a mere $7.
For my bag, I chose a transfer that said “hello beautiful.” I’m going to use the “Adventure Awaits” transfer on a larger canvas tote and maybe even make some others with remaining transfers to give as gifts! These particular transfers used a rub on method, but there are others that are heat transfer or you can even use stencils and fabric paint.
Have fun with an easy summer craft that gets you the popular look without the cost.
