Thanksgiving is almost here and you’ve probably thought about the menu, table settings, decor and how to prepare your home for guests. What no one wants to think about is the clean-up. It can be daunting to get the kitchen back to into shape after entertaining, especially when you can’t use the dishwasher for your plates, silverware or special cookware. This year, I’m prepared for the clean-up with stenciled dish towels, Scotch-Brite® Heavy Duty Scrub Sponges and Scotch-Brite® Non-Scratch Scrub Sponges.
These towels, stenciled with “Gather Here” are perfect for Thanksgiving, but you can use this method with any stencil to create any design. They are fun to make, too!
What You’ll Need:
Plain White Dish Towels – Ironed
Fabric Paint in color choice
Stencil of choice
Small Paint Roller
Piece of cardboard (to prevent bleedthrough)
Good work surface – outdoors, on cardboard, etc.
You’ll want to decide how your towels will be folded and then account for the fold needed for hanging. Stencil lower than that “fold” so that your design will appear in full when it is folded and hung on display.
Place cardboard underneath your work surface and area you want to stencil.
Spray the stencil adhesive onto the back of the stencil. I like to blot it dry (if there are any clumps) before I stick it to the towel. Place on and press firmly to make sure the stencil stays in place.
Roll the paint onto the stencil, covering each area well.
Allow to sit for a minute or so and then very carefully peel off the stencil.
Allow to FULLY dry (overnight) and then wash to rid the towel of any residue from the adhesive, etc.
Tip: Buy a quality fabric paint. A good paint will allow the fabric to keep movement and withstand many washings without fading or peeling.
The towel is great for drying all those dishes, but getting them clean is another story. Thankfully, Scotch-Brite™ Brand has the right tools for every surface of your home!
The Green (Heavy Duty) will help you can help you clean tough, baked-on messes 50% faster than other competitive sponges. Not only are they great in the kitchen (think pots, pans and casserole dishes, oven racks), but they’re great outdoor items, grill racks, tools and tires.
The Blue is (non-scratch) for items like dishes, countertops and non-stick cookware. You can safely clean, without scratching!
You can purchase either the Heavy Duty Scrub Sponge and Non-Scratch Scrub Sponge at Walmart in either a 3, 6 or 9 pack. Stock up, at great prices like these!
