Chronic joint pain can be a real struggle – for me, I started having joint pain after the birth of my twins and it’s been a problem for me ever since. Pain and joint stiffness come and go – and I never know when something will trigger it. If you, or someone you know, has chronic joint pain, you may know that there are no easy, straightforward solutions. Below are some of the solutions and habits that have helped give me some relief.  As always, I would tell any friend to discuss your specific concerns with your doctor before making any changes to your routine!

Stay Active and Flexible

While joint pain may make you want to stay home and be inactive, you should try to do the opposite. Yoga can help maintain flexibility and provide stretching for sore or stiff joints. Choose a cardio activtity that is low impact – like swimming.

Stay Hydrated and Eat Well

This one really makes all the difference. Getting enough water and eating with proper nutrition is key for joint health. Having enough water helps your body function optimally, so when you’ve already got joint pain, not getting enough water can make things worse.  Fresh fruits, veggies, plenty of water and supplements all play a role.

Soak Sore Joints

A good hot bath will do sore joints good! The water and heat will help stimulate circulation which can alleviate joint pain and stiffness. I like to add Epsom Salts, in which magnesium and sulfate are main components. These can play an important role in treating inflammation.

DIY Pain Cream for Sore Joints/Muscles

Pain cream is not something I tend to buy, because I don’t need it all the time. With chronic joint pain, particulary in my hands and one knee — it’s easy to make this SUPER SIMPLE DIY pain cream anytime I need it.  I’m not the only one who benefits. My husband uses it if he feels sore after the gym, too.

When I was researching how to make my own pain cream, I saw many recipes that involved making my own base cream, with coconut oil but simply did not have the time (or patience) for that. I decided to take a shortcut and use a Vitamin E Cream Base. You can look for a straight Vitamin E cream with no added scents or other ingredients.  Other than that, you’ll need the right essential oils.

What You Need:

Essential Oils – Camphor, Eucalytpus and Menthol (5 drops each)

Vitamin E Cream (pure)  3 oz.

Bowl to mix

Container to Store — I like to use the kind I can squeeze the cream out of, but also a flat jar for my purse.

Directions:

Add Vitamin E Cream to Bowl. Add 5 Drops of each essential oil and mix well. Pour into container, label and you’re done!  Store and use as needed for painful joints or muscles.

Support Joint Health Daily with Turmeric

Since I have chronic joint pain, I’m always looking for ways to help support my joint health. One way I’ve supported healthy joints is by taking Turmeric.  I honestly consider Turmeric just one of many foundational health products I take – like probiotics, fish oil and multi-vitamins. It’s a nutritional supplement that can be used daily to optimize health and well-being. Not only does Turmeric support healthy joints — it also supports healthy skin, provides antioxidant properties and healthy inflammation response. Emerging research also hows that turmeric supports healthy liver function, healthy brain function and supports exercise recovery/offsets muscle pain associated with overexertion.

I used to use a powder in my smoothies, but really love the idea of using youtheory® Turmeric Extra Strength 120 Capsules.  The new formula, pictured, has 1,000mg turmeric per 2 capsules, compared to the old formula of 450 mg per 3 tablets. The new formula and new packaging is available at Costco – notice the label on the front and top of the container.

Why choose youtheory Turmeric?

youtheory Turmeric is different in a lot of ways. The product uses Curcumin C3 Complex®, the most researched turmeric extract in the world, backed by 90 studies including 47 human clinicals. The capsules are enhanced with Black Pepper extract to improve absorption by 20 fold (20x more absorbed than regular turmeric, which is notorious for being poorly absorbed). The product is also allergy-friendly, and appropriate for vegetarians and is free of gluten ingredients. This product helps amplify turmeric – you simply cannot get the same benefits using the turmeric in your kitchen’s spice rack. Regular turmeric is poorly absorbed and contains only about 5% curcuminoids by weight. This is the active constituent that makes turmeric yellow and provides the vast majority of benefits that are attributed to turmeric intake. The youtheory turmeric is 95% curcuminoids (nearly 20 times more than regular turmeric). Given this 20x concentration, one pill (500 mg) of the new extra strength formula provides the dosage equivalency of almost 10,000 mg (10 grams) of turmeric!  Overall, youtheory Turmeric’s new formulation has 3x the amount of turmeric per capsule than the old tablets… in vegan capsules! This is why I have added this new formula to my daily routine.

i was having my husband mix Turmeric powder in his coffee along with honey and cinnamon. He also has a heart problem and is on plavix. Recently I learned turmeric is also a blood thinner…. he does not use it anymore. please when making Diy smoothies, creams, etc…..check with your physician.

Yes, I agree about always checking with your doctor on any new supplements. At my last physical, the doctor even asked what supplements and vitamins I was taking. I think it’s important to keep them and the pharmacist in the loop! Thanks for stopping by!

I would discuss any symptoms with your doctor. I’m not a medical professional. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
