My kiddos finally head back to school this week (**jumping up and down clapping**) and I can’t say that I don’t welcome the change in our routine. While we leave behind good memories of the summer, I’m ready for our more structured routine to begin again. Part of that involves making them a good, usually hot breakfast each day before school. My kids are creatures of habit and they tend to gravitate towards the same breakfast options. Needless to say, I like it when I can come up with something to make their favorite breakfast choices a little more interesting. Taking their favorite french toast bites, I decided to get a little creative with the addition of NESTLÉ® NESQUIK® Powder.
The result was an individual serving of chocolate baked french toast – topped with whipped cream, fresh berries and a little shaved dark chocolate.
They loved their small bowls – the chocolate taste and I love that I can either quickly whip this up in the morning or prepare each bowl at night. It quickly bakes while everyone is getting dressed and ready.
It is a fun, complaint-free breakfast that incorporates NESTLÉ® NESQUIK® Powder – a favorite of mine growing up. I can remember enjoying a glass of the Chocolate Flavor (as featured here) when I was young. My mom would occasionally buy us the NESTLÉ® NESQUIK® Powder Strawberry, too! Using Nesquik in this recipe is a great way to bring in that chocolate taste with 45% less sugar than the leading chocolate syrup brand. Nesquik also contains 7 essential vitamins and minerals with no artificial colors or flavors – and when combined with 8 fluid ounces of low-fat milk, contains 8 grams of protein. Clearly, Nesquik is not just a glass of chocolate milk – it’s nourishment where the goodness of milk meets the best ingredients, vitamins and minerals.
To make this easy recipe, I chose to use my kids’ plain homestyle french toast sticks. You could certainly use bread to make it more traditional. The recipe will work either way. You could also make this as one big batch instead of using individual ramekins.
The Nesquik is added to the egg, milk and vanilla liquid mixture.
It is then poured over each individual bowl, making sure to fully saturate the bread. It is then baked, cooled and topped with whipped cream and fresh berries.
- NESTLÉ® NESQUIK® Powder – Chocolate Flavor – 3 Tbsp
- French Toast Sticks (broken into bite size pieces) or bread
- 3 Eggs
- 1/2 cup low-fat milk
- Whipped Cream
- Dark Chocolate – Shaved
- Fresh Berries of choice
- Vanilla Extract – 1/2 tsp
- Start by coating each ramekin witn non-stick spray.
- Place french toast bites or bread into each bowl
- Preheat oven to 325.
- Mix together milk, eggs, Nesquik Powder, vanilla extract
- Pour over bread mixture, fully coating and saturatign the bread – there should be excess liquid in each bowl.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until liquid is all soaked up, but still has retained some moisture. Do not overbake/dry out.
- Remove from oven, allow to cool and top with whipped cream, fresh berries and shaved chocolate.

What french toast sticks are you referring to? I only know about frozen ones?
Hi Nanci! They are frozen french toast sticks, the ones I used. However, they are a natural, organic kids brand, so they were very much like bread – not ‘coated’ like french toast, which is why I thought they’d be a great fit. It could honestly work with ordinary plain frozen french toast sticks too – just thaw them out.
