Families often say that there isn’t time for a good breakfast in the mornings – and I get it. The school mornings in my house are sorta crazy. But, I’ve found that breakfast doesn’t have to suffer and we can actually fit in a good breakfast without being late. The key….planning and prep work. I’m sharing three easy things you can do to build that better breakfast for your family!
Eliminate Rush
The first step in building a better breakfast for your family is eliminating the rush. Eliminate the rush by eliminating the work. I do everything at night now. Pack lunches, lay out clothes, pack backpacks and prep breakfast. With the work out of the way, it’s a matter of getting up, getting dressed, making beds, eating and brushing teeth. While it’s still a lot to do with young kids, the work is already done and it feels like a better morning. We have more time to sit down, eat and a relax a bit before getting in the car.
Stock Up
Prepping breakfast is easy when you have the right things on hand.
I even make it fun by setting up a breakfast spread. It may seem like a lot of work, but I LOVE this so much more than having my kids ask me to get them every little thing. I’ve found when I lay it all out, they help themselves (hallelujah!!) and I can tackle something else. There’s no complaining because they can make their breakfast choices and feel like they had a say.
Some essentials in my breakfast spread include: Lender’s Bagels, Great Value Milk and Del Monte Fruit & Veggie Fusions.
Milk is so important – it’s naturally nutrient rich and powers potential. Milk’s 9 essential nutrients, including 8 grams of high-quality protein per 8 ounce serving, can help to ensure that kids have the potential to play, learn and grow. We choose Great Value Low Fat Milk as a staple at breakfast-time.
But what about those that don’t have access to milk? Childhood should be filled with playing, learning and growing. But for many children who face hunger, even basic staples like milk – and the nutrients that help power childhood activities – are missing. Now, you can help feed a childhood! You can join Feeding America in The Great American Milk Drive to help deliver highly desired and nutrient-rich gallons of milk to hungry children and families who need it most. More than 14 million servings of milk have been delivered to food banks through this first-of-its-kind initiative. By purchasing 1 or more of these products, you are helping Feeding America provide nutrient- rich milk to kids and families in need. Visit http://milklife.com/give to learn more.
Lender’s Bagels are great choice because they are filling – sustaining kids all morning. Plain, blueberry and Cinnamon-Raisin flavors are kid-friendly and great for the whole family. Lender’s truly has a bagel for everyone! I also choose them because they are timesaving, easy, tasty and nutritious. You can find them available in the refrigerated dairy section at Walmart.
Something new we’ve been enjoying with our breakfasts has been Del Monte Fruit & Veggie Fusions. This is the only fruit cup product that provides 1 serving of fruits and veggies in a single cup. The veggies are in the juice but you’d never know it! You can look for specially marked Del Monte Fruit & Veggie Fusions on shelf at Walmart with valuable coupons for Del Monte and Lenders products.
Make It Fun
Get creative with breakfast and break “tradition.” As I mentioned, I set up breakfast as a breakfast bar. My kids think this is the best and it’s also fun to do when you have guests, too! (perfect for the upcoming holiday season and houseguests!)
When we have a particularly busy morning, I use disposable plates to save on a bit of time.
I let the kids get creative with fun toppings vs. the plain staples — like strawberry spread, cinnamon butter and strawberries and cream bagel.
Have Great Value Milk on hand for cereal and for a delicious drink at breakfast. All the products together offer simplicity for busy mornings but endless combinations of ideas, bagel toppings and more!
You can find my breakfast essentials at Walmart! Look for Great Value low-fat milk and Lender’s Bagels in the refrigerated dairy section.
And you can find Del Monte Fruit Fusions where would normally find fruit cups.
