A deck or patio can be an extension of your living space in the warmer months of the year. We have a large deck that runs the entire length of the back of our deck – it’s great space! However, even with a large table, umbrella, chairs, a grill and large trunk for my kids’ toys, there’s still pockets of space that need “something” so I decided on a small seating area to fill in some space and provide more seating for entertaining. I wanted to keep it simple and inexpensive but make it really functional.
Tips for Putting Together a Seating Area
Shop Big Lots
Where you get everything is the biggest thing. Big Lots offers you the ability to stay within budget and pick up on-trend items. They carry high quality outdoor decor products, including patio furniture, that are value priced, trend right and offer you the ability to mix and match to create the perfect outdoor space. Shopping at Big Lots is always a great experience. Every time I walk in the store – someone is always asks if you need help with anything. And this time, I did since I was buying two chairs and a side table. Everything else I was purchasing was easy to shop for in the outdoor section, which was set up to inspire and provide a lot of choices!
Putting everything together was easy – everything Big Lots offers fits so well together making it easy to create an on-trend, sophisticated space. (**Note: Styles and assortment vary by store) Here is what I picked up – and it all came in under my budget.
- 2 Chairs
- 1 Side Table
- 2 Outdoor Throw Pillows
- 2 Lanterns
- Decorative Wood Sign
- Plates
- Cups
- Outdoor Rug
Consider Size and Space
You don’t want to overwhelm the space with too big furniture, or put small scale furniture in a large space. Big Lots had every imaginable option for me. My space was small, so I decided on smaller chairs that were comfortable and stylish and an end table. However, they also had large conversation sets for bigger spaces.
Play with Color
Don’t be afraid to play with color. Throw pillows are a great way to add in a pop of color. Don’t feel you have to stick to the same color theme, either. It’s okay to mix and match colors for a vibrant outdoor space.
Bring In Elements of the Indoors
An outdoor seating area should be space that you are comfortable in. An outdoor rug under your feet is great if you want to kick off your shoes.
A fun sign and fresh flowers make the space feel more welcoming.
Setting up this space was fun, easy and budget-friendly with Big Lots. What outdoor space would you shop Big Lots for?
