Thank you to Vicks for sponsoring this post as part of my participation in the Vicks Ambassador Program. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own. #NoSickDays
With my three-year-old twins in preschool, I know it’s just a matter of time before the cold and flu germs start making their rounds this winter. I always seem to get hit the hardest when the germs make their way around to me – perhaps because I’m worn down from taking care of everyone else!
As parents, we can’t always take a “sick day.” It can be nearly impossible. Sometimes, however, when that cold or flu strikes particularly hard, you have no choice but to slow down. I find that taking DayQuil SEVERE to relieve cold and flu symptoms paired with a day in bed or on the couch can do wonders.
5 Sick Day Comforts
Hot Shower or Bath
It’s okay to have a lazy day, for sure, but a nice hot bath or shower is always a good way to feel better – instantly. I like to change into fresh clothes (comfy clothes or pjs, of course!) and put my hair up comfortably!
Movies or Netflix!
Nothing brings more comfort than watching a favorite movie! Your idea of a good movie may vary from mine, but pick one that you love, even if you’ve seen it a million times! Older movies from my younger days make me feel happy and instantly better!

My favorite sick day movies: 10 Things I Hate About You, Dirty Dancing, Love Actually, Bridget Jones’ Diary, Bring it On, and Princess Bride.
Make a Tray
Most of us don’t have someone to bring us breakfast in bed, so prepare a tray yourself! Stock it with water, tea, some fruit, a favorite snack, throat lozenges or anything else that you like to enjoy while you’re sick. Don’t forget the tissues!
Cozy Up!
Comfy pajamas, a great throw and warm socks = instant comfort! Stay where you are most comfortable – bed, couch, or a favorite chair.
Check in But Let Go!
With busy schedules, it’s tempting to just work all day. Sometimes losing ONE day to get some needed rest can better than working for 3 or 4 days while you’re not 100% and battling a cough the sniffles. It’s okay to check those emails or hop on a conference call if you’re needed, but just enough to get the critical stuff done. Let people know you’re not available but that you’ll be back in the game tomorrow.
No matter how you take comfort on a sick day – make sure you take DayQuil SEVERE to get you through your day and NyQuil SEVERE to sleep through the night.
