This post features information and a short review of A Christmas Story : The Musical at the Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ. I was provided with tickets to the show, compensated and asked to provide my honest thoughts about the show and theatre as part of a campaign through Blog Meets Brand. As always, all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
We love the movie, A Christmas Story. My husband is especially a fan – he looks forward Christmas Day when they play a marathon of it on television. I’ve always liked the movie, but it wasn’t until I saw A Christmas Story : The Musical at the Papermill Playhouse that I really connected with the story.
Everyone knows the 1983 film and the musical is based off it. Ralphie, the main character, only wants one thing for Christmas – an Official Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model Air Rifle and we follow him on his quest to get it for Christmas. I’ve seen the movie countless times, but the musical brings new life to the story and is truly something the whole family can enjoy! I enjoyed it and connected with the characters so much more – particularly the mother. It’s a must – see and made me appreciate the precious time that is childhood for my own kids. For me, the musical had a more poignant side that really drove home the message of the season.
The musical follows the plot of the plot of the movie and is perfect for the entire family – with tender, relatable moments — and of course, it’s funny! If you’re looking for a family event or gift to give for the holidays, I’d see this while it is playing at the Paper Mill! My son, 6, had an amazing time and loved it (and the candy he got for the performance in the lobby!)
Paper Mill Playhouse is a not for profit organization that has been putting on live theater performances since 1939 in beautiful downtown Millburn. It’s convenient – a “Browadway in Your Backyard.” I loved being able to give my son that true Broadway like experience without having to go all the way into the NYC during this time of year with all the crowds. Papermill Playhouse has award winning access services for disabled and autistic patrons and their productions feature A-list talent, many of them with broadway, film and tv credits.
Paper Mill Playhouse is a beautiful theatre – and set in a nice location in Millburn, NJ.
The Carriage House Bistro & Bar s a restaurant that is open before and after performances (before for lunch and after for drinks)- it’s highly recommended you have a reservation.
I also love the fun side of Paper Mill Playhouse – how cute is this?
They also love their fans and their patrons – valuing them. You MUST see Paper Mill Playhouse’s first ever short film, “Ralphie’s Christmas Wish.” It is AMAZING. Get your tissues out. This is why we love this theatre and what it means to us to have such an amazing organization here in NJ!
Future and upcoming shows at Paper Mill Playhouse include: A Bronx Tale, Pump Boys and Dinettes and Westside Story.
