The holidays are busy for everyone – and one of the most stressful, yet fun, things is entertaining! We love having friends and family over during the holidays, even drop-in guests are always welcome. However, with three littles running around, it’s gotten significantly harder to keep the house looking guest-friendly. Often, you have little time to prepare or want to quickly have your home look it’s best.
Here are some of the ways I make sure our home is ready for guests:
Curb Appeal
The way your home looks when people drive up sets the tone! If you have holiday lights, turn them on along with porch lights. Have a festive wreath, swag or something else to dress up your door. I like to decorate our entire porch, but even a little decor can go a long way.
Inviting Entryway
Make sure the entry way is welcoming – have flowers or a plant, candles and space for guests to set their things down. Clear the clutter and make sure guests feel at home right away. One way to make sure guests feel welcome right away is with scents of the holiday. I love Febreeze products for this reason – they can help rid the area of odors from the kitchen, pet odors and more. Giving your guests the best first impression.
Clear the Clutter
If a room is clutter free, it looks clean. Enough said! Get rid of the clutter and have tables and countertops clear.
Vacuum and Spruce Up Furniture
If a room is free of clutter (check) and the floors are clean, it looks so much more amazing and welcoming. Same of your furniture. Add some inexpensive throw pillows or a plush throw blanket to your couches and chair to add some color or texture. I like to also use Febreze to get rid of any lingering odors….
Mostly from this little guy. He may be cute, but he creates some stink. Your guests will thank you.
Room Ambiance
I like to use candles, like this Febreze candle, to help eliminate the mixed smells from cooking, but also to set a mood. Use inexpensive items to create easy centerpieces and have holiday music ready to go.
Prepare the Bathroom
Have plenty of handsoap, hand lotion, fresh towels and plenty of tissue on hand. Be sure all lighting is working and have Febreze Air Effects where guests can access it.
It doesn’t have to be difficult to have your home guest ready – a common theme, clean, ambiance, decor and of course, no odors. Febreeze shares this passion for getting rid of the holiday stink! A new music video created by Glee’s Jane Lynch and Matthew Morrison for Febreze is a spoof on the holiday classic tune “12 Days of Christmas.” The song is all about eliminating those annoying holiday stinks and it will be available all season long on the Febreze YouTube channel – but you can watch it here!
