This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Dove Hair, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #LoveYourCurls #pmgdove http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV
It started in middle school with a few comments from some immature boys and probably a few from snarky girls. But it led to me spending the rest of my teenage years and all my twenties straightening my hair. Every….Single….Day. I never wore my hair in it’s natural curls and if I did, it was up, hidden away. People flat out did not believe I had curly hair because they had never seen it. When I think of all the time I wasted…literally tons of time….straightening my hair, it makes me a little sad!
Maybe because I now, as I do my own daughters’ beautiful curls each day, I cannot imagine them being ashamed.
People always told me my curls were beautiful when I was young, and I never believed it. I know that if my twin girls even stand a chance at feeling good about their curls, they have to see their mamma able to wear hers with pride.
So, I’m on a mission to Love my Curls, so my daughters will too! And here are some ways that you can love your curls!
Get the Right Style
I’ve had the same stylist for many years and she’s never styled my hair curly. I’ve never let her since I have always asked for a blow out. Consult a stylist and ask for a cut that will flatter your curls and learn how to do your hair. Diffusers are great – my curls respond best to the type with the “fingers.” Learn which types of products will help your curls look their best!
Resist the Urge to Put it Up – Over the years, I’ve let my hair dry it’s natural state, but always promptly stuck it up in a big bun. The entire month after having twins, I wore my hair in a bun so that no one would see my curls. Sad, right? Let your hair down and your curls shine! Save the bun for the humid days – – I won’t argue with you there!
Be Proud of Your Curls!
I’m loving what Dove Hair has done to change the way I use emojis! I’m able to share my love of my curls. Curly haired girls, rejoice!
You can download the Dove Love Your Curls Emojis, the first emoji keyboard designed to represent curly girls everywhere in the App Store and Google Play Store. So, now, when you’re using an emoji, which 74% of people do everyday, it will better reflect you! There’s something for everyone with more than one type of hairstyle, skin tone and hair colors! Straight hair remains the “one size fits all” hair type for women in the current Unicode Emoji keyboard, which leaves curly women and girls unable to accurately express themselves. Now, us curly haired girls finally have something to express ourselves!
PLUS, Dove Hair will also be partnering with Twitter so each time women and girls share a #LoveYourCurls moment, a custom Dove Curly Emoji will appear in the tweet. So fun!
Accept Compliments.
I’ve always shot down a compliment about my curls. Accept them and enjoy the comments on your curls!
Moisturize and Treat it Right – Use covered elastics since hair breakage will make curls frizz and the right products are essential for sheen, shine and good volume curls! Dove Hair has plenty of products that will treat your curls right!
Do you have curly hair? If so, how do you #LoveYourCurls? If not, how do you celebrate your own unique attributes
Dove Your Curls Emojis in the App Store and Google Play Store to show you #LoveYourCurls!
