One of the best things I did for myself was to start drinking protein shakes in the morning. Not only has it provided a fast, protein-rich breakfast, it helps me stay full through the morning. Breakfast sets the tone for my day – so I’m always trying out new ingredients that I feel good about. Something that I always include in my shakes is almond milk. It’s a terrific base for a creamy and delicious shake. When I heard about Orgain Organic Protein Almond Milk®, it was clear that this is what almond milk should be!
What I love about this almond milk is that it has 10 times the protein of other leading almond milks – making it the clear choice in my morning shake. It’s rich, creamy and contains plant-based calcium and vitamin D. (Get more information in this infographic!) My favorite is the lightly sweetened vanilla variety. It has less than half of the sugar of the leading brands’ sweetened vanilla almond milk.

The first smoothie I made with it was a Blueberry-Vanilla Smoothie with a hint of lavender.
Blueberry is one of my favorite fruits to add to a smoothie or shake. It goes so well with the vanilla flavor, too!
Lavender, which has a lot of good-for-you properties, is a great flavor addition, but be sure to use very sparingly. You only want a hint of it. I like to use a food-grade oil, and I add it with a dropper – a very small amount. (Be sure you are purchasing a food grade lavender oil, as other oils, or essentials may not be intended for consumption!) If you are lucky enough to grow lavender or have access to grown, edible lavender – you can also put a few buds directly into your blender. I’ve done this in baking and it really turns out nicely!
I also added some of my favorite protein shake mix. The recipe does great without it -so it is totally optional. If you do decide to use a shake mix, be sure that it recommends mixing with almond milk, as mine does.
Blueberry-Vanilla Smoothie with Lavender
1 cup – Orgain Organic Protein Almond Milk® (Sweetened)
1 cup – Organic Blueberries – Fresh to Frozen
1/2 banana – frozen
1/2 cup of ice cubes
1-2 drops of Food Grade Lavender Oil OR 1/2 tsp culinary/food grade dried lavender
Vanilla Bean – to taste from whole vanilla
Optional: 1 scoop of protein shake mix – your choice *be sure directions call for mix with almond milk or milk
Put everything into your blender, starting with liquids. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.
