When it comes to summer-entertaining, grilling tends to make everything so much easier. We use the grill all summer long to prepare our favorite summer foods – both for parties and family dinners. There are so many foods you can make with the added bonus that your kitchen doesn’t get heated up. Last summer, we started making pizza on the grill and were really happy with how delicious they turned out. Grilled pizza can be a great idea at your next bbq or weeknight meal. It’s easy to plan, SUPER easy to prep and everyone loves it.
For a recent party, I decided to make life simple and pick up one of our favorite pizzas, JACK’S Pizza, at Walmart. You can find them at a great price, which means you can stock up for the summer. My favorite variety is the JACK’S® Pepperoni Original Pizza.
It’s really simple to cook JACK’S Pizza on your propane grill – which is the most ideal way to grill it. If you haven’t done it before, you’ll ask yourself why once you see how easy the whole process is. (A complete tutorial for grilling pizza can be found on their website) Each pizza only takes 15-20 minutes, so you can focus on your guests and having fun rather than cooking.
For this party, I had some high trays and stands to serve the pizza on. I then paired the pizza with light and refreshing sides. The first side was a Spinach, Watercress & Strawberry Salad. (Complete recipe is at the bottom of the post!)
This salad has a great flavor combination and is so simple to make. Combine fresh baby spinach, watercress and fresh strawberry. I like to add in some sugared pecans and drizzle with EVOO and balsamic vinegar. The color is gorgeous and it tastes amazing with the pizza. Tip: Make things easier on your guests and have the salads portioned out in bowls. Grab and go.
The next side that compliments the JACK’S Pizza is a Balsamic Watermelon with Feta and Basil. Now, if you haven’t had this before, you might initially raise an eyebrow, but it is so delicious. The light sweetness of the watermelon combined with the sharp Feta, and tang of the balsamic is perfect.
I like to cut mine in wedges, just like the pizza!
JACK’S Pizza will help you throw the perfect party – especially when paired with fresh sides using fruits and vegetables!
Another easy way to add some fun to a pizza party is with an Italian Cream Soda Bar. This is always a hit at parties and is easy to put together.
Just pick up some flavored syrups (any variety you like), cream, whipped cream and sparkling water/seltzer. Have plenty of ice on hand and set up your ‘bar.’ I like to include a sign that tells people how to make their cream soda. Everyone likes getting creative while mixing their own soda.
Pretty straws and mason jar glasses are a great way to serve the cream sodas. My favorite is a raspberry cream soda – extra creamy!
Of course no party would be complete without ice cream for dessert. Keeping in line with simple, I picked up NESTLÉ® DRUMSTICK® Vanilla Cones at Walmart. It’s a heck of a lot easier than chasing after the ice cream truck and both kids and adults love them the same.
To make these easy to serve, make sure they’re well frozen and then unwrap each one inside. Lay them on a serving tray or platter (that also spent some time in the freezer) and bring them out for everyone to enjoy! They’re like a mini-sundae on a cone – and there’s never any left.
What’s nice about the party concept above is that it’s easy, affordable and there’s not a lot of clean-up. Your kitchen and house stay cool in the summer heat and your guests will rave about the food. It’s the perfect summer party.
