Everyone knows the feeling you get from ‘just-washed’ clothes, towels or sheets. Even my five year old. Recently, he was sick and I washed his sheets, blankets and bedding. When he returned to bed, he sighed, saying “Ahhh! Fresh sheets!” Even a young kid can appreciate how it makes you feel when your clothes and fabrics are clean and fresh. But what about when your skin reacts to detergents and fragrances? Suddenly, the experience might not be so great.
Consider if your laundry routine could be bothering you or your family’s skin. It can be easy to overlook laundry routines as affecting skin sensitivities. But something as simple as swapping your old laundry routine for a new one can make all the difference. My twins suffer from eczema. I’ve found that I can control the flare-ups if I help them avoid harsh dyes and fragrances. That’s why I wash their clothes in products that will help mitigate negative skin reactions, like P&G Free & Gentle products. I’ve had the experience of purchasing other detergents or softeners on sale, only to have my girls end up itchy and uncomfortable. Needless to say, it wasn’t much of a savings when I had to throw out the rest of the bottle.
P&G Free & Gentle products are the best solution. The detergents and fabric softeners we use can be considered a “Second Skincare” and just as important as choosing the right body lotions and washes. P&G Free & Gentle products offer a hypoallergenic, dye and perfume-free laundry routine while maintaining the reputation of trusted brands like Tide, Downy and Bounce. I used the products for about 2 weeks and was very happy with the quality and effectiveness of these trusted brands. My clothes were still clean and fresh – just without the heavy perfumes.
Best of all, my kids did not complain of itchiness and I realized that I was no longer itchy. I never thought of myself as having sensitive skin, BUT from time to time, I would get itchy. I chalked it up to dry skin or other factors and never thought it could be my laundry routine. While only time will tell, I have not had any itchiness since using these products. With everyone’s skin feeling better, these are products that have earned a place in my laundry room!
Some other interesting facts to consider:
Nearly half of U.S. adults report having sensitive skin. While many of them seek out facial and body care products specifically designed for sensitive skin, they may not realize that the products they use to care for their fabrics (their second skin) are equally important. 87% of free detergent consumers use scented fabric softener/dryer sheets, which can cause irritation.
