A friend of mine is expecting in the spring and I’m thrilled to be helping plan her shower. We both spend a lot of time Manhattan, but she’ll be a newbie to navigating with a baby in tow. The best gift I can give this mom-to be is to share some of my own baby solutions for traveling in NYC and throw her an amazing shower.
Gold & Black: NYC Style-Inspired Baby Shower
When I think of New York City and my stylish friend/ mom-to be, I think of sophisticated and classic colors. This fit in with my friend’s request for a gender neutral shower. So, we forgot about pink, blue, yellow and green and went glam with black and gold.
Here’s the ideas that helped us pull it all together:
Flowers are a great way to add in a pop of color – as we did here with the pink. It looks great with the gold and helps break up the color theme a little bit.
These gold painted mason jars are an easy way to create holders for straws, utensils or flowers – and you can paint them any color to match your theme.
We had lots of sweets – like these mini strawberry shortcakes and gold/black swirled lollipops. Our cake was simple, homemade and accented with gold and black fabric flowers.
A beautiful handmade baby banner helped tie in the theme and provided some decoration for our party.
Another way to tie in color and theme is with wooden forks with gold foiled stickers – helping give the party a custom look!
For favors, we chose a white chocolate covered cookie with gold sprinkles. Tied off with a gold ribbon, it was a great take away for guests.
You can find info below the video for where we shopped for these sweet treats and some of our other fabulous finds!
For centerpieces, we made mini diaper cakes for each table. We purchased Huggies Little Movers and Snug & Dry from CVS in various sizes because babies grow fast! We simply wrapped the diapers in some decorative black and gold papers to create these mini cakes!
Finally, instead of a guest book, we had guests fill out a sheet with their wishes for baby. They were encouraged to share their hopes for baby and any gentle advice! We had guests put their wishes in jar for mom & dad to-be to read through.
Gift Idea – Diaper & Wipes Clutch
I’d tell any new mom keep it simple, light and organized when in the city with a baby, especially with help from Huggies! My gift to help my friend do this: a stocked black and gold diaper clutch, with built in changing pad and a Huggies Wipes clutch!
Keep it Simple: Don’t overdo it. If you end up needing something you didn’t bring, you can find it in a snap. Like the time I forgot diapers and quickly popped into a midtown CVS to pick up Huggies. Problem solved.
Keep it Light: I have twins now, so I usually travel with a stroller. Prior to that, I used a baby carrier to wear my son. Different options, but both great. No matter your mode of travel, it’s easier when your bags are light. The last thing you want is a heavy diaper bag weighing you down. A simple diaper and wipes clutch will make your bag so much lighter – and allow more room for other necessities – think blanket, toy, pacifier, bottles, snacks, etc.
Keep It Organized: Get yourself an all-in-one clutch like this! It has a pocket for mamma’s stuff and room for necessities and diapers. Along with my wipes clutch (which easily clips on), I have everything I need in one spot! Most clutches will also open up to a large diaper changing pad- which is also a must with a baby in NYC!

My SIL is pregnant with her first and she lives in NYC, but her shower will be here at home in Boston.
Hopefully her shower will be after all your snow melts! Boston is a great location for a baby shower (and my second favorite city!)– have fun!
So pinterest-worthy! I went out to a baby shower over the weekend for the first time (as an adult!) lol.
Thanks, Nancy! I didn’t attend a baby shower either til my friends starting having babies – which wasn’t too long ago. First it was all the bridal showers, now baby! 🙂
Very cool and sleek! Good Luck to the new parents to be!
Thanks! Sleek is a good description! 🙂

This is gorgeous! I don’t know anyone pregnant at the moment that hasn’t had a baby shower yet. I just love these colors. I am going to have a 40th birthday this year. This would be perfect for that. I’d rather not have a black, grey, over the hill party.
I love how elegant this looks. This reminds me of a celebrity event, lol. Beautiful!
I love how sexy and elegant that whole shower looks. What a great idea.
Such lovely ideas for a baby shower. I don’t know if the black would be for me as I like colour but I love all the details.
The black and white swirled lollipops are such a nice touch. And, I really like the colors of black and gold together.
Black and Gold are not colors that I would associate with a baby shower. This looks really nice though.
OKay, that is one fabulous baby shower! Now I wish I would have had one! LOL
