Every Mom Deserves a Safe Birth

Feb 24, 2015 Stephanie 1227 0 0

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central and Kangu. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

I recently had the opportunity to learn about Kangu, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to one mission: That every woman in the world has a safe birth. They provide life-saving, essential services to expectant moms and babies with the hope of eliminating preventable maternal and newborn deaths around the world.

Did you know that every day, 800 women, nearly 300,000 every year, die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. 99% of these deaths occur in developing countries?  This number is horrifying to me. As a mother of young twins, I know how much medical support I needed during my pregnancy. What if I didn’t have that support – the excellent doctors, hospitals and treatment?  Every mother, and their children, should be entitled to a ‘safe birth’ with services before, during adn after delivery that are proven to save the lives of mothers and their newborn babies.

So how does Kangu help? They use ‘crowdfunding’ – technology that enables individuals to come together as a community to jointly raise money for something they believe in.

How can you help?  Anyone, anywhere, can visit www.kangu.org and search profiles of pregnant women in need. They can then contribute towards eliminating the financial barrier for a specific woman so that she might  access high-quality healthcare – before, during and after childbirth. Vetted local medical partners provide the services and they are proven to reduce maternal and newborn deaths by up to 80%

I recently posted about a shower that we’re throwing for a good friend of mine. She and her husband had wanted to thank guests by making a donation in each guest’s name – and I think this organization is perfect for this purpose – especially since you can make a donation in honor of someone else. The best thing is that an amount as little as $10 can make a difference. Once you make a donation, you’ll receive an update from medical partners when the mother has given birth.
