With Valentine’s Day coming up, I’m excited to share some of my favorite restaurants for a great date night in Newport, RI. Newport is one of my favorite places, period. It’s perfect for a romantic weekend away or if you live in the area, a great place to spend a date night. There’s so many shops and restaurants. In addition to the well-known Cliff Walk and the Mansions of Newport, there really is so much to see and do in this quaint, bustling and lively town. During the summer months, add in fabulous beaches, sailing, nightlife and sightseeing. We love it so much there that we have a second home and vacation there year round.

No matter when we’re there, my husband and I always try to get in a dinner at a nice restaurant. I’m sharing some of our favorite romantic spots & hope you find them useful if you’re planning a night out to experience Newport, RI dining with your sweetheart.
Bouchard Restaurant

Open 5:30 pm daily, except Tuesdays
Children 7 and older in the dining room
Attire: Business Casual
I’m partial to french foods, but this is probably my favorite restaurant in Newport. It is on the pricier side, with entrees in the $20-40 range, but for a nice night out, it’s so worth it. The food is french food at it’s best. I’ve never anything that wasn’t amazing! A friend who has since moved away from the area, still schedules business trips close enough that he can come here for dinner! During the summer months, you can enjoy al-fresco dining. The establishment also has a wonderful Inn, both in the main house and harbor house, with beautiful rooms and amenities. [Photo: Newport Restaurants.com]

I love the homey atmosphere of this friendly, welcoming restaurant. The service is great, the food is phenomenal. Cuisine is American – with a small menu that supports local farms & fishermen. On a recent trip there, my husband raved about the Bouillabaisse while I had Braised Beef with Butternut Squash Risotto. Amazing food! Prices range from around $24-28 entree. The dining room is cozy and comfortable – a really great date night spot.

This restaurant definitely has a more modern feel – with a creative & interesting menu. We love that it’s close to the water – in fact, the upstairs bar area (with a great, attic-like space) has amazing views of Narragansett Bay. I like the way the menu is set up with small plates/big plates – we ordered several small plates so that we got to try many dishes. I definitely recommend this for a great date-night.

Mamma Luisa Italian Restaurant
673 Thames St., Newport
(401) 848-5257
Open 5-10PM Closed Wednesdays
I had to put a good, classic Italian restaurant on this list – it’s a must. And there’s nothing more romantic than a bottle of wine and good Italian food. Mamma Luisa’s has all your favorite Italian dishes – reasonable prices. My husband likes it the best because it reminds him of his mom’s cooking! The dining room has nice ambiance and we’ve always had great service. We’ve dined here a lot and I’ve always had a great meal. Perfect for a date night, celebration, anniversary or birthday dinner!

This is such a unique, beautiful and amazing restaurant. It’s very intimate and there are specified ‘seating’ times, so be sure to call and make a reservation. I can’t think of a better place for a great date night. The food has such beautiful presentation – you almost don’t want to eat it! But you do, and it’s delicious and very very flavorful. There’s a great prix fixe menu for $68 and a chefs tasting menu for $98. We’ve only been once, but I’m looking forward to returning for another night out with my husband. A truly great experience.
