Find Your Healthy & Celebrate Women’s Health Month

Find Your Healthy at Walgreens

What does ‘health’ mean to you?  If you asked a younger me that question, I’d probably have said it had everything to do with the number on the scale. And then I became a mom. The idea of ‘health’ took on a whole new meaning. Sure, part of me still focused on  getting the baby weight off, but I realized that so much more goes into it,  especially as a woman.  I learned that the mind/body connection exists and that prevention is key. Energy, sleep, nourishing your body – all of them are factors in health. With May being Women’s Health Month, there’s no better time to decide what healthy means to you.

For me, focusing on mind, body and soul has made me happier. Feeling good, living well, prevention and treating this body with respect have become priorities. One place that I can visit to help me with all of those priorities is Walgreens – where I can find the information, resources and products I need to focus on my health.

My Health: What I’m Focusing On

Staying Active

I exercise for overall health – not just for weight loss. Walgreens supports this with their Steps with Balance Rewards program, which helps me earn rewards for my activity. They also have the electronics to help me track how much I am moving.  Purchasing a tracker from Walgreens has been the best decision I’ve ever made. I just about squealed in the aisle when I found it at such a great price. It helps me to stay on track – and I can actually sync it to my Steps with Balance Rewards. Easy!

A run at sun-up or sun-down, I’m making  it work and feeling better everyday.

Finding Balance with the Right Supplements & Vitamins

I’ve dealt with low iron since I had my first son. Something about that pregnancy triggered a reoccurring issue.  I feel better when I stay on top of it by eating the right foods, like eggs, green veggies and taking  a supplement when that’s not enough.

Walgreens has an amazing selection of vitamins and supplements. On a recent shopping trip, I stocked up on my iron supplement and another supplement I take to help with metabolism, skin and nails.

If you’re unsure about what vitamin or supplement to choose, talk to your doctor. The Walgreens pharmacy staff is also a great resource!

Skincare

Good skin is an added perk of taking care of yourself. I find that my skin responds well when I’m eating right, getting sleep and exercising. I typically select natural, non-irritating cleansers, moisturizers and sunblock at Walgreens. Other beauty items like make-up and nail polish contribute to a ‘look good, feel good’ attitude.

Healthy Teeth & Gums

We often fail to think of our teeth as part of our overall health – but good oral hygiene can play a huge role in the your body’s health. Added to that, I’m not a huge fan of the dentist. The less time spent there, the better. I can always find all my favorite products to care for my teeth and gums when shopping at Walgreens.

Nourishment

Food as nourishment has been a change in thinking for me. I’ve gotten pickier and  started choosing natural, whole foods for the bulk of my meals. But as a busy mom, I’m not always home in my kitchen. It can be a little too easy to swing by a drive-thru for coffee or a not-so-good for you meal. To stay on track, I keep healthy snacks and mini-meals on hand. Some of my favorites that I usually pick up at Walgreens are raw nuts, protein bars, string cheese or yogurt. These are much better choices when I’m waiting in the pick-up line at my son’s school.

Educating Myself

Even though I don’t feel like it, I’m not 23 anymore. I’m in my early thirties and there is health information for me to now be aware of. When you walk the aisles of Walgreens, you find helpful pamphlets on a variety of topics. Learn about your health and make prevention a key part of what you do. Heart health and monthly breast exams have become important to me in recent months.  Both are so important for women to be aware of and practice. Learn your family history and be inspired by those around you to learn all you can.

No matter what your health goals are, you can reach them with the information, resources and products at Walgreens.

I love that you can sync your steps with the Balance Rewards account and earn points! I signed up for it a while ago but I forget to use it. I need to log back in and make it a habit! *highfive* for making positive steps towards a healthier life! #client
