Creating a Space for Myself with La-Z-Boy

Jan 28, 2013 Stephanie

So this is my son’s room. Baby nursery turned preschooler’s room.   It’s cute and functional, but small, and he’s outgrowing it quickly.

Now that he’s ready for a his first ‘big boy bed,’ we’ve decided to move him next door to a bigger room. And I’ve got my eye on this space…for me!

In this house, my 8 month old twins have a nice large room and my husband has an office and makes the most use of the family room. My son has a playroom and will have a new larger bedroom. Me, well, when I’m not in the kitchen or cleaning all those other spaces, I really don’t have any space outside the master bedroom that is my own.

I decided to make my son’s old nurseryinto a space for myself. I guess it could be called a ‘Mom Cave.” A place I can read, have my own desk, and possibly (if I’m really lucky) find some peace and quiet. I want need a place that I can seek some tranquility and hopefully a place to keep my things safe from tiny hands.

I have a lot of work to to do, which will include furnishings, new paint color, new window treatments and a new rug. With any new room design, it’s always helpful to find some inspiration.  I had the opportunity to check out La-Z-Boy and their great line of furniture.  I was super impressed with the selections and designs I found on their online website and catalog.

I started out by taking their online quiz – a quick and easy process! The Style Finder Quiz  described me as being a blend of Traditional and Casual Chic and I definitely agree.

Here are some of the inspiration rooms that

appealed to my style:

This last photo really drew me in with the mix of colors and style. After browsing through all of the selections from La-Z-Boy, I created my own inspiration board over on Pinterest, which you can see HERE.

I then narrowed my choices down to the pieces that I think will work best in my new space.

The Diana Supreme Comfort Twin Sleep Chair will be perfect in my small space. It looks comfy enough for me alone, or with a preschooler on my lap. Plus, it folds out to a sleeper for when my mom needs to stay over (to watch the kids, of course.)  Love the ‘double-duty’ function of this beautiful chair. The print is fun, graphic and bold – and since this is my Mom Cave, I can have a bit more fun with the fabric choices and colors. Previewing all the fabric choices for your selected piece of furniture is as simple as a click. I had so much fun trying out all the different fabrics.

Just like the inspiration room, I love the idea of combining the aqua blue with the citrus of the print on the chair.  Love this Roundabout Ottoman.

I love how this chest of drawers will add some storage for myself or guests and a great surface for a lamp and some candles.  I love the matching flower top table as a sidetable for my chair.

Finally, I really like the Boracay Square End Trunk for some extra storage or display.

About La-Z-Boy

La-Z-Boy has an impressive selection of furniture that fits all styles. They are celebrating their 85th year in business, so they certainly know a thing or two about furniture and upholstery pieces. Not only do they offer sofas, recliners, chairs, loveseats and sectionals, but also a full line of furniture to complete your entire room. What I love most about La-Z-Boy is the ability to customize their furniture. They have over 900 fabrics for more than 250 frames.  I was able to quickly and easily change the fabric on the chairs I was viewing. This is SO helpful in planning a room. A piece of furniture can very quickly change, for good or bad, depending on the fabric covering. I like being able to play with different fabrics right from my computer.
